Course Outline

Our A Level English Literature revision courses are designed to strengthen students’ analytical, interpretative, and comparative skills. By focusing on reading strategies, contextual understanding, and exam technique, students gain the confidence and depth needed to approach any set text or unseen material in the exam.

  • Compare texts effectively, drawing out similarities and differences.

  • Develop exam technique for tackling a range of question types.

  • Challenge perceptions and explore multiple interpretations of meaning.


Topics Covered

Poetry

  • Identifying and analysing literary structures.

  • Evaluating choices of language, rhythm, and sound devices.

  • Comparing poems with attention to cultural references.

  • Understanding cultural and historical contexts.

Shakespeare & Drama

  • Understanding the form and structure of plays.

  • Analysing language, character development, and themes.

  • Learning how to write about plays and their staging.

  • Exploring different interpretations in their historical and modern contexts.

Prose

  • Examining the importance of narrative voice, themes, and ideas.

  • Analysing language choices such as figures of speech.

  • Comparing and contrasting two prose texts where required.

Note: The course is skills-focused rather than text-specific, but tutors will provide support on any particular texts students are studying.
